Henry Opt is operated by Alec Darlow. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the data controller. This means we decide how and why your personal data is processed.

All tax calculation inputs (salary, pension details, etc.) are processed entirely within your browser. We do not transmit, collect, or store any of your financial data on our servers.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your email address solely to:
- Send you updates about new Henry Opt tools and features
- Notify you of UK tax changes that may affect high earners (e.g. Budget announcements, threshold changes)
We will never sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. Who We Share Data With
We share your data only with the following categories of service provider, each of whom acts as a data processor on our behalf under a written Data Processing Agreement:
- Buttondown – to store your email address and send you communications
- Vercel and Cloudflare – to host and serve the website
We do not transfer your personal data outside the United Kingdom unless the recipient country provides an adequate level of data protection, or appropriate safeguards are in place (such as Standard Contractual Clauses). Buttondown is a United States-based company and may store user, subscriber, and email data on servers located in the US. They prioritise privacy by not selling data, but they do collect standard information like IP addresses, open/click events, and email client details.
5. How Long We Keep Your Data
We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our mailing list. If you unsubscribe, we will delete your email address within 30 days, except that we will retain it on a suppression list to ensure we do not contact you again.
Browser local storage data remains on your own device and is under your control. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
6. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights:
- Access – request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification – ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Erasure – ask us to delete your data
- Restriction – ask us to limit how we process your data
- Portability – receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection – object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent – unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in every email, or by contacting us directly
